What is up my Crime Crazy People?!?!?!

Welcome BACK to the Veil of Humanity!!! We are your hosts Mel and Kimmy !!

As we start Season 4, we are kicking off the end of October a little differently. Today we would like to revisit a case that we had briefly discussed back in our first season, and get into a longer, more detailed discussion-Danny Rolling aka The Gainesville Ripper. This case inspired a blockbuster movie franchise and defined a cultural milestone. Today we are bringing real life to the Ghostface killer himself from Scream. We're going to walk through what happened, how investigators connected the crimes, why an early suspect became the focus of so much attention, how a tip helped redirect the investigation, and what eventually happened in court. This man is Danny Rolling, the man convicted of these crimes, and the evidence that ultimately connected him to the murders, and throughout this episode, we want to remember something important. These five people were not characters in a horror movie. They were real human beings whose lives mattered before the headlines ever appeared.

We also want to state that while Scream is not based off a true story, the screenwriter, Kevin Williamson was inspired by the real-life case of Danny Rolling, a serial killer known as the “Gainesville Ripper”, who murdered five college students brutally during a four-day span in Gainesville, Florida in August 1990. Hollywood turned a serial killer into a very popular franchise and would unknowingly create a fan base that would spur on copycat killers. So, my crime crazy people this episode will be told in several parts as we will also bring you the copycat murders of Cassie Jo Stoddart and Alisson Cambier (kahm-bee-ay).

So grab your favorite beverage, a pillow to scream into, as we take a look into when Hollywood meets real life.

We are a fan of the cursey words and try as we might to not say them, we are human and they do slip. (Sorry Courtney)

Trigger warnings are in place now! This episode discusses multiple murders, sexual violence, and violence against young adults. Listener discretion is advised.

Ok Biss are you ready?
